In the photography studio with Kodak Tri-X 400 35mm film and a Model in 2013

Recently we were loaned a 35mm canon camera to test out some expired kodak film. Long story short on that one because the film was clearly expired and the scans were less than satisfactory to post. Well – our 35mm journey did not stop there 🙂 – One day last week I was out and about at the local Rite Aid and I stumbled across some of my favorite black and white film which is Kodak Tri-x 400 35mm film. It was a whopping $10 per roll, but I purchased 2 rolls of it anyway. When I got back home I asked Evelyn if she would put in a call to the modeling agency we have been shooting with this past year and asked them if they had any models that needed to update and possibly test with us.  They were more than happy to send a model by the name of Spencer to us for a Saturday session to see what we could do with Kodak Tri-X 400 35mm film. We are more than extremely pleased with the results. Here are some of our favorites. We only used one roll of  Tri-X for Spencer, the other roll we used on family.

Double Exposure “The Fall of Eve” with Victoria Henley

A double exposure (or multiple exposure) is when you expose the same frame of film more than once. Kind of like drawing two images on top of each other using one piece of paper. Hope that makes sense. The following editorial contains three double exposure photos from the shoot. They are pretty obvious and easy to spot……… Enjoy!!!

Model: Victoria Henley from “Americas Next Top Model Cycle 19”
Stylist: Tyson Keanum
Environment: Columbia Antique Mall
Camera: Mamiya RZ67 Pro IID and Mamiya AFD 645 II
Lighting: Ambient & Profoto D1’s
Film: Kodak Portra 160 & Kodak Portra 400 both shot at box speed

Theme of editorial: The Fall of Eve

It’s been quite some time since we blogged

We just did a check and the last time we posted a blog was March 18th. That is good in a way that we don’t oversaturate your time, but also bad because it makes it appear that we are inactive – which is exactly the opposite of why there was such a lapse of time since our last post. We are going to try to catch you up within the next week or two.
In short we’ve been busy doing several fashion editorials, test shots for a talent agency, and various other projects.
Here are a few test shots we did with a model for Tout Agency in Charleston.

For our photography friends:
Mamiya RZ67 Pro IID
Leaf Aptus 65
Capture One Software
Profoto D1 Monoblocs 1000ws

Canvas Backdrop

Thanks for hanging in there with us!!

We did this shoot a few weeks ago and just got a chance to Blog and Post today:) Thalia is an aspiring teen model and well worth the attention she is getting. She is not only beautiful but fun loving and fresh. Here are some of the photos from that shoot.

She showed up basic and our makeup and hair artist did their magic. (Amy Shaming and Tyson Keanum) She has a natural beauty.

Wow! Love the pink shoes.

Interesting thing….she is wrapped in one of our backdrops.

What a Beauty.

Just Casual.

Beautiful in Black and White.

We would like to thank our team and Thalia. Keep in mind….we don’t just take photos of professional models. We also help develop a look for aspiring models as well.

It is safe to assume that life can throw us some curve balls every now and then. For the past several months we have been on a marketing campaign that was to position our company within a certain type of market. However, the contrary has happened. While we are still pursuing our marketing campaign, we have just added fashion as of late. After all, fashion is a market as well:)  We love it! During this whole process we have always had the notion of having the perfect team. We feel that we have finally found a team that is so easy to work with and where egos don’t get in the way. We can’t stress enough how important it is for everyone to be on the same page and with our current group we feel that it is such a natural thing. What makes up the perfect team for us is: Competence, vision, artistic skill, patience, attitude and personality.

Here is a little of what we have done lately. We are not going to be able to show the photos that we took of “Victoria Henley” from Americas next top model competition for about five more days. But we look forward to it when we can. Hang in there!!! Big Things Can Happen in a small town.

Lately, we have been working with Kyrian and these are a few from the shoot. If you saw last weeks blog, you will know that this is the same model.

Ego, Id, and Super Ego

Our Matrix Star at rest

A big thank you to everyone!

What does an Americas Next top model contestant, Mahagony Magazine and Audrey Hepburn have in common?

These past 5-7 days here at the studio have been extremely hectic. Last Friday we were commissioned to shoot one of Americas Next Top Model Contestants to be featured in the next issue of Mahogany Magazine. Although we can’t share any of those pics until the magazine issue is released. Just look for it on the shelves. We don’t watch the show so we can’t say anything about Victoria’s personality on the show, but what we can say is she is a real gem and possesses a personality that is sweet, polite, professional and confident. She is well rounded and can work in front of a camera quicker than one can press a shutter release. So – we look forward to sharing her shoot in the future when we are able to be free of media constraints.

Now for Audrey Hepburn – The following day we had the pleasure of photographing Kyrian. She is a stunningly attractive beauty as you will see in the photographs below. This was part of a campaign for a jewelry shoot. Several months ago Evelyn, Amy and Tyson (They make up our artistic team) came up with the desire to do an Audrey Hepburn photo session and they wanted to incorporate Kyrian into the shoot due to her classic look. Well – we were presented with the Jewelry to promote for the season and it just all came together.  Some of these were shot digitally and others with film — The difference is obvious as film inherits an entirely different feel than Digital.

So what do Americas Next top model contestant, Mahagony Magazine and Audrey Hepburn have in common?     They were all part of a busy and productive week silly!!!

Amanda & Charles

It has been quite some time since we’ve posted anything new on our blog. Although a blog is supposed to dive somewhat into the personal lives of “the blogger” we like to keep our personal lives somewhat guarded and away from our lives as photographers at times. Recently we suffered a loss in the family and needed time to regain ourselves before reentering the virtual world of blogging. So – here is the scoop:  We have been shooting a tremendous amount lately and right now as I (KLinh) compose this “blog entry” Evelyn is 20 feet across the studio trying to play catch up on a photo session due tomorrow morning.

Last weekend we had the pleasure of photographing Amanda and Charles engagement session. They are one of our new couples, so needless to say you will be seeing bits and pieces of their coverage throughout the next year. We decided to have their engagement session in the southern town of Newberry, SC. Like most of our sessions we like to shoot at the end of the day and into early evening. Stories just seem to be better told when they transition from light to dark.  A technical note to photographers out there: All background was lit via natural light and the subjects are lit via Pro-foto D1 strobes, Ettl-flash (580exII) or tungsten video light. Yep – we use them all!!

Off we go:

Let's start off with a "hero" shot

Don't you just love spring time fields.

Bradford Pears bloom once a year and only for a short amount of time.

Romance doesn't just happen - you have to look for it - then you have to photograph it.

Amanda is not a model

Charles is not a model either

Amanda & Charles are......

Fashionably in love

We told Charles to give us his most protective look....We ran away shortly after this photograph.

Every photograph tells a story......Here, the pages unfold within those pearls

Have you noticed that this photograph is the first kissing picture of the series? --- and it's not on the lips.

And then the night began to fall upon them

Can't let them get away without a silver tone hollywood style photograph.

Heroes always get the girl. Who says good guys finish last?
